In case you are still fiddling around for something to do this weekend – whether you want to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, the Kentucky Derby, or do something else altogether – we are sharing with you The Local Tourist’s 10 Things To Do In Chicago the weekend of May 4 – 6, 2012

Well, hello May! Aren’t you gorgeous! It’s only the first weekend and there are enough things to do for a month. This is all prep to get you ready for the summer, including a few festivals and some day drinking.

  1. Cinco de Mayo Festival
    Fri – Sun, Little Village
Why just go to a bar for Cinco de Mayo when you can go to a three-day festival! There’s live music all weekend long and authentic Mexican cuisine.
  2. 6th Annual Chicago Green Festival
    Sat & Sun, Streeterville
    Navy Pier
This festival’s all about being environmentally friendly, and they put their money where their mouths are: ride your bike and you get in free!
  3. Mayfest / 3MAJówka
    Sat & Sun, Jefferson Park
    Copernicus Center

Have you ever wanted to go to Poland? Here’s your chance – sort of. Celebrate Polish Constitution Day with Polish music, including Polish Reggae, Polish food, and Polish people.
  4. Manifest Urban Arts Festival
    Fri 12pm, Loop
    Columbia College

Columbia College is the largest arts and media college in the country. See the work of their graduating class at this free annual festival of arts.
  5. Artrageous
    Sat 10am, Lincoln Park
Clark Street turns into Art Street with pop-up exhibits, cooking demonstrations, live music and a community art project where you help design a mosaic.
  6. Cinco de Derby Pub Crawl
    Sat 1pm, Lakeview
    Multiple Locations

It’s not just Cinco de Mayo, it’s also Derby Day! This pub crawl provides tacos, margaritas, and trolley rides between locations. Not sure where the “Derby” part comes in, but the name’s clever.
  7. Derby Day at The Southern
    Sat 11am, Wicker Park
    The Southern

Now here’s a Derby celebration for you. Woodford Reserve cocktails, Woodford Reserve samples from the Woodford Reserve girls, and a commemorative bottle of Woodford Reserve will be awarded as a raffle prize. There are also prizes for the man and woman with the best Derby attire.
  8. Freud’s Last Session
    Sun 1pm & 5pm, Lincoln Park
    Mercury Theater

Celebrate Freud’s birthday after both performances with cupcakes and a chance to meet the cast. One audience member will get a “Freudian Slip” courtesy of Chicago’s G Boutique. Wonder what his mom would say about that.
  9. Pride & Prejudice
    Sun 4pm, Rogers Park
    Lifeline Theatre
Critics are raving about this adaptation of the Jane Austen novel, including our own Suzanne White Montiel!
  10. Long Grove’s Chocolate Fest
    Fri – Sun, Long Grove
Live music, chocolate, and kids are free. Need I say more?
