All you vegetarians and vegan types should probably look away now and all you beef eaters should step forward. You ever go to the butcher shop or meat section of your grocery store and wonder how the butcher knows where and how to chop to give you that perfect cut of meat for the barbecue? Well now’s the time to find out.

So here’s the breakdown: this cooking class will show you proper knife skills and butchering techniques to slice a large slab of meat into perfect steaks, tenderloins and roasts. Come prepared to get your hands dirty! You won’t be standing behind a glass shield waiting for samples to be passed around. This is a hands on experience where you actually have a chance to cut meat under the supervision of a master butcher standing close by. Don’t worry about utensils because everything you need will be provided on site not to mention you also get to take your cut of meat home.

As an ode to 5 De Mayo Chicago, the class will be taught by Master Butcher Maestro Carnicero and experienced meat cutters Alberto Sanchez and Juan Carapia Picaso. There will also be a fajita cooking demo by Chef Ryan Hutmacher after which a Mexican inspired lunch will be served with Margaritas. Tickets for this class are $150 dollars and each guest of the class will get to leave with 8-10 pounds of personally wrapped cuts of steaks, tenderloins and more.

Chicago Cinco De Mayo meets the “Retox” music series at Minibar. Every Sunday Minibar has a drink special for its patrons. May 5th will be slightly different from the usual drink and music format in that there will be a Cinco De Mayo Chicago theme throughout the venue but especially in the backroom where all the maraca shaking takes place. Minibar is located at 3341 North Halsted Street, Chicago. The wizard of sound for this dance party is the one and only DJ Tony Tone.

Cinco De Mayo Chicago 2013: Chicago Bachata All-Stars Celebration - The closest most of us have gotten to a great dancer is an episode of “Dancing with the Stars”. Why not spend part of your Chicago Cinco De Mayo watching some incredible dancers first hand? The Chicago Bachata All Stars invite you out to their Cinco De Mayo Chicago celebration on Saturday, May 4th. Doors open at 10 pm at Club Mambo Cafe located at 3336 North Milwaukee.

The scheduled dance performances include Bachata, Cumbia, Salsa and Cha, Cha, Cha. Music will be provided by DJ Helio. The various groups to perform for this 5 De Mayo celebration include the Academia De Baile Angelitos, the Bachata Rising Stars, Cumbia Allstars, Los Cinco Magnificos, Gifted Souls, the Bachata All Stars and last but not least the award winning Luis and Lorena of Mexico.

After the dance exhibitions conclude, Latin dance music will be played until 3am! Wait! I almost forgot….do you know what a Grito Contest is?!
