Festival de La Villita
Date: Friday to Sunday; September 9-11, 2011
Time: Friday: 6pm to 11 pm | Saturday: Noon to 11pm | Sunday: Noon to 11pm
Location: Little Village, 26th and Kostner | Chicago
Beneficiary: Little Village Chamber of Commerce
Chicago’s Hispanic community will celebrate Mexico’s independence from Spain–and South-of-the-Border culture–at the 22nd annual Festival de La Vilita (Little Village Festival) at 2600 S. Kostner in the Little Village neighborhood.
Attracting thousands–and wildly popular with families and children–the three-day event is the Midwest’s premier outdoor gala of Mexican culture. Admission is free.
Among the more than 100 vendors will be neighborhood restaurants serving up authentic Mexican cuisine. There will also be music as well as artisans, entertainment for kids and carnival rides. In addition, there will be appearances by TV and radio personalities.
On Sunday, the festival is the end location of the 26th Street Parade, one of Chicago’s largest parades and one of the biggest celebrations of Hispanic culture in the U.S. That parade starts at Albany (3100 W) at Noon on Sunday and proceeds west on 26th Street to Kostner.
A portion of festival proceeds benefit the Little Village Chamber of Commerce.
